From the point of view of geomorphology, the Oak Forestis located in the high diluvial plain, about 210 meters above sea level, at the margin between the hilly area of the moraine arches to the north and the terraced esplanades of the fluvio-glacial deposits, due to the erosive disposal of the moraine accumulations to the south.
The subsoil of the fluvio-glacial deposits is permeable, with a predominantly gravel-sand composition. At a depth of 30-50 meters there is a clay layer, over which the water table flows, the surface of which is about 30-35 meters. If we consider the surface hydrography, the area west of Bosco delle Querce is much richer in watercourses: numerous streams descend from the Groane Plateau to enter the Seveso stream.
The Certosa or Terrò watercourse laps the perimeter of Bosco delle Querce for a long stretch, after draining a large territory upstream to Lake Montorfano, to enter the Seveso stream a little further downstream from the Bosco.
The climate of the Oak Woods can be considered moderate-continental, with cold winters and warm summers, with temperature ranges rarely exceeding 20°C, high humidity, autumn and winter fogs, rainfall concentrated in spring and autumn, and limited windiness. The average annual rainfall is about 1,300 mm.
The natural vegetation once present in the area can be identified in the broadleaf mesophytes and in particular in the Querco-Betuletum insubricum, Querco-Carpinetum, Querce-Ostrietum (Helleboro-Ornetum), with good variability depending on the composition of the soil, which is more or less deeply altered. The tree and shrub species present in the nearby residual forests consist of English Oak or Oak, Scots Pine, Birch, White Hornbeam, Black Alder, Willow, Dogwood, Hawthorn, Hazel, Elderberry... Worth mentioning among the herbaceous flora are Heather and Molina.
